Heartland: Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky is a variation on my fish trap series. My inspiration for this basket set was the beauty and honesty of the Kansas landscape and the corn and sorghum crops that literally feed our country. The title is a line from the song “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas, written in 1977. The guitarist, Kerry Livgren, was inspired by a book of native American poetry exploring man's mortality. The sculpture was first exhibited in Wichita, KS in July, 2024 so I have dedicated this work to the memories of the 64 individuals on American Airlines Flight 5342 who lost their lives on 29 January, 2025 while flying from Wichita, KS to Washington DC.
